Women’s Rugby League 9s event officially adopted for the 2025–26 BUCS season

The RFL can today confirm that Women’s Rugby League 9s has been officially adopted into the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) programme for the 2025–26 season, with anticipated delivery in spring 2026. This is an exciting moment for the university game and a celebration of the collaborative work between BUCS, the RFL and the higher education sector.

The adoption of Women’s Rugby League 9s marks an important step in strengthening the competitive and developmental pathway for female student athletes. With BUCS recognition, students will have a clear, competitive opportunity within the higher education calendar that supports participation, performance and progression in the women and girls game.

This achievement reflects the commitment of the RFL, participating universities, volunteers and everyone involved in delivering university Rugby League activity. The introduction of Women’s Rugby League 9s will broaden opportunities for students, enhance the competitive offer within universities and contribute to the long-term growth of the sport.
