Wigan's Robin Park Arena to host final round of the PDRL Medequip Cup this Saturday

Robin Park Arena will host the third and final round of the Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL) Medequip Cup this Saturday (18 October), kicking off at 12pm.

The start of the 2025 PDRL season saw the introduction of the inaugural Medequip Cup, with Yorkshire claiming victory in two of the three rounds so far.

The competition has proved to be an attractive playing opportunity, with Lancashire welcoming Australian player Bryce Crane, who travelled over to take part in the series. Another highlight of the series was the curtain-raiser fixture held at AMT Headingley Stadium, ahead of the Betfred Super League clash between Leeds Rhinos and Catalans Dragons in Round 26.

The final fixture of the series will take place in Wigan and is set to be a celebration of the progress and growing profile of PDRL. The event will showcase the conclusion of what has been a closely contested and inspiring competition.

Bryce Crane, Leeds Rhinos and Australian International PDRL player, said: “I suffered a paralyzed arm in 2020, and it took year to recover with surgeries and more. I later found PDRL online, joined up and later that year I was in the UK playing in the PDRL World Cup

“Physical Disability Rugby League is a special sport to see. To see everybody from all different walks of life play PDRL it is pretty special."

Chris Godfrey, National Inclusion Manager, also said: “The Medequip Cup has been a great success so far, with both teams delivering outstanding performances and representing the PDRL space to the highest standards.

“The Medequip Cup stands as a great development tool for the PDRL variant of the game and as an attractive playing offer where all participants will be fully classified to compete. The fact that this series has attracted international talent is a testament to this sport and to the community that surrounds it – from players, coaches, volunteers and more.”

It’s bittersweet that this weekend will conclude such a groundbreaking series. However, I am pleased to confirm following this year’s success, the series will return next year."
