The RFL and Medequip celebrate three-year partnership milestone as PDRL England Community Lions begin 2026 World Cup campaign
The 2026 disability inclusion season proudly marks the third consecutive year of partnership between the RFL and community equipment specialists Medequip, celebrating a shared commitment to the growth and visibility of Physical Disability Rugby League (PDRL).
In 2024, Medequip further demonstrated its advocacy for disability sport by announcing a shirt sponsorship agreement with the PDRL England Community Lions, supporting the programme during a two-match international series against Wales. This built on Medequip’s earlier involvement in the sport, having previously sponsored Wakefield Trinity Foundation three years earlier, a clear reflection of their long-standing commitment to inclusivity within sport and local communities.
In 2025, the partnership reached another significant milestone with the inaugural launch of the Medequip Cup, a historic Lancashire v Yorkshire series. The competition introduced an exciting new opportunity for PDRL players across the country, with teams from the two counties going head-to-head in a three-round, State of Origin-style contest, the first of its kind within the physical disability variant of the game. The Medequip Cup has since become a valuable development pathway for PDRL, offering a high-quality and fully classified competitive environment for players.
Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be an even more landmark year for both PDRL and Medequip. The England Community Lions have begun preparations to defend their title at the next PDRL World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia later this year; meaning that Medequip’s support will reach the international stage, with players proudly wearing the Medequip-sponsored jersey as they compete fiercely to retain the World Cup and bring glory back to England.
