Stars of the future to take part in Girls Talent Hub

Girls Talent Hubs are set to return in 2024 with a new cohort of regional squads selected to take part in the six-week development programme aimed at identifying the female Rugby League players of the future.

The sessions will get under way on the Wednesday 12 June, with players set to benefit from enhanced core skill development and two playing opportunities.

Over 70 girls aged under 15 and under 16 will take part in training sessions across the North West and at two sites in Yorkshire, where the focus will be on developing a range of core skills. In common with last year’s programme, the sessions will be planned and delivered by volunteer staff, all of whom have a strong presence in Women’s and Girl’s Rugby League.

The Girls Talent Hubs are the first step on the performance pathway, and act as one element of identifying girls to progress as a U17 onto the England Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme. DiSE is a National Programme for Year 12 and Year 13 girls who are deemed to have the potential to represent England in the future and play at the top of the Women’s game in England. Thirty DiSE places are available every academic year for a new group of Year 12 students who study full time at school or college.

DiSE is a ‘dual career’ performance programme which combines education and elite rugby development. Players receive high-level training delivered on a camp basis by the England Performance Unit. The rugby sessions are designed and overseen by the RFL’s Stuart Barrow, England Women Head Coach, who closely monitors players development throughout their journey.
