With the 2026 season now at its mid-point, the RFL is pleased to share an update on the progress of the Cumbria Men’s League, following the introduction of the new National Community Rugby League (NCRL) structure implemented earlier this year.
The new structure has brought teams from Barrow and West Cumbria together to form the Cumbria Men’s League, with seven teams competing in the Premier Division and seven in Division 1. The change has re-ignited old rivalries, created new ones, and added fresh energy to the community game across the region.
Premier Division
In the Premier Division, Askam are leading the way with eight wins from eight games; a stark contrast to the previous 2025 season, when they won just one of their 14 fixtures. They are closely followed by Wath Brow Hornets A, who have long been a strong side in the regional leagues, and Lowca, who reached the Play-Offs in 2025. At the other end of the table see’s Kells A, who were promoted from Division 1 in the off-season, and Flimby Vikings who continue to face a tough challenge but are still resiliently competing.
Division 1
Division 1 remains a tight affair, with Aspatria Hornets currently topping the table ahead of Egremont Rangers A and Dalton A. Maryport A, Glasson Rangers, and Hensingham A are separated by just two points in mid-table, while Millom A are still searching for their first win of the season.
Cup Competitions
In the cup competitions, after all teams played four group games, the standings were split into three separate competitions: Cup, Trophy, and Shield. Twelve teams will now feature in the semi-final stages before the season reaches three finals on Saturday 15 August.
Once teams return to action after the break, the remaining league rounds will determine who qualifies for the Play-Offs and the end-of-season Grand Finals in late September.
