Betfred Super League Round 14 Round-Up

Betfred Super League Round 14 Round-Up

Betfred Super League champions St Helens avenged last month's loss to Toulouse as they moved four points clear at the top of the table with a 28-14 win in France.

Chris Hankinson landed an early goal for the hosts but Saints soon took charge with tries from Morgan Knowles, Tommy Makinson and Konrad Hurrell.

Harrison Hansen and Hankinson crossed as Toulouse rallied after the break but Saints always had too much with Jack Welsby and Regan Grace – on his return from injury – adding to their score.

The match was overseen by an all-French group of officials after referee Liam Moore and his team were caught up in travel delays.

Saints' victory on Saturday meant they took advantage of second-placed Catalans' 22-14 loss to Huddersfield the previous day. Challenge Cup winners Wigan were also able to move level with the Dragons as they won 32-12 at Castleford.

Huddersfield's performance in Perpignan showed their character after defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week.

Ricky Leutele, Adam O'Brien and Chris McQueen touched down as the Giants raced into an 18-2 first-half lead.

Arthur Mourgue and Matthieu Laguerre claimed tries as the Dragons responded but McQueen's second try late on held off the hosts' fightback.

Liam Marshall, who scored Wigan's cup-winning try, grabbed two of the Warriors' six against the Tigers.

Bevan French, Abbas Miski, Jake Bibby and Liam Farrell were the other players to get on the scoresheet after Castleford had started brightly with tries from Greg Eden and Kenny Edwards.

At the opposite end of the table, Jacob Miller kicked a dramatic golden-point drop goal as 11th-placed Wakefield secured a crucial 19-18 win over Hull.

It capped an impressive fightback from Trinity after a double from Adam Swift and another try from Darnell McIntosh had seen Hull establish an 18-6 lead.

Yet Hull suffered badly after losing Jake Connor to injury and Wakefield hit back to level through Corey Hall and Lee Gaskell.

Luke Gale twice missed with drop-goal attempts for Hull but Miller made no mistake as Wakefield ended a seven-game losing run.

Hull KR claimed their first win in five games in all competitions as they overpowered Salford 43-16.

Lachlan Coote starred by scoring two tries in a 23-point haul while Ryan Hall and Ben Crooks also finished with two tries each. Ethan Ryan scored their other try with Kallum Watkins, Deon Cross and Joe Burgess replying for Salford.

Warrington's poor form continued as they slumped to a 40-4 defeat at the hands of Leeds, who are enjoying an upturn in fortunes under new coach Rohan Smith.

David Fusitu'a and Ash Handley claimed two tries apiece with further scores from Kruise Leeming, Zak Hardaker, James Donaldson and Bodene Thompson in a convincing display.
