Betfred League One Round 9 Preview

Betfred League One Round 9 Preview

It’s a bumper Saturday of action in Betfred League One this week with three fixtures set to take place.

Fist up at 2pm is Cornwall vs Swinton on Our League. Cornwall are still winless but will be hoping to continue to show some of their early season promise, despite defeat to previously winless West Wales last weekend.

Swinton meanwhile will be hoping to record another win as they keep up their play off chase. Allan Coleman's side suffered relegation from the Championship last year and currently have five wins from seven games as they search for an immediate return to the second tier.

Elsewhere, Rochdale Hornets will be looking to continued their superb 2022 campaign which sees them sit third in the table after six wins from eight games, only behind unbeaten pair Keighley and North Wales.

The Hornets also boast the competition's top point scorer in Lewis Sheridan - he has an impressive 11 tries and 56 goals for 156 points so far in 2022.

In opposition, Richard Horne's Doncaster team have proven to be inconsistent in 2022 and sit fifth in the league after five wins from eight fixtures. Can they pull off what would be something of a shock this weekend and kickstart their play-off push?

Saturday's third fixture sees West Wales Raiders play host to Hunslet.

West Wales picked up their first win since 2019 last week as they saw off Cornwall 20-0 away from home. They will be in buoyant mood ahead of a return home - can they spring a huge surprise and make it two Betfred League One wins in a row for the first time in their history?

They will face stiff opposition in the form of Hunslet who have a record of three wins and a draw from their seven matches so far this season. The South Leeds outfit have firm play-off ambitions under the leadership of head coach Alan Kilshaw and will see this weekend's long away trip as a chance to pick up league win number four of 2022.

Finally on Sunday, Midlands Hurricanes are the visitors as Keighley Cougars put their impressive unbeaten record on the line this week at Cougar Park.

Keighley have won seven games from as many league games this year and know a win this week would see them leapfrog fellow unbeaten side North Wales into top spot. North Wales have been a game ahead in the 11-team league this season but have a weekend off this time.

The Cougars, who can call on the likes of Scott Murrell, Jake Webster and now Dane Chisholm will come into the game as strong favourites as they search for an eighth win from as many games at the start of the 2022 Betfred League One season.
