Huddersfield Giants booked their place in the Semi-Finals of the Betfred Challenge Cup for the first time since 2012 following a 24-16 victory over Hull FC at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The sides both scored three tries apiece but the boot of Tui Lolohea proved the difference in the end for Ian Watson’s men.
Ricky Leutele opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes as he was just too strong for the Airlie Birds defence. Lolohea converted and added a penalty goal to further the Giants lead.
Manu Ma’u hit back for the visitors, but a well-worked Huddersfield move saw Chris McQueen pounce on a low kick to restore their 10-point advantage heading into half-time.
Andre Savelio scored for FC after the break to pull Brett Hodgson’s side back within reach of the hosts.
However, Luke Yates would slice through the Hull defence midway through the second half finding an onrushing Lolohea in support to seal victory for Huddersfield. Lolohea’s scored 16 of the Giants 24 points in an impressive display.
Former Giant Darnell McIntosh notched a late consolation for Hull.
