Masters Women’s Rugby League Secures Funding Grant to Grow the Game

Masters Women’s Rugby League has successfully secured a funding grant to invest in the sport and inspire more players to become part of the thriving Women’s Masters Rugby League community.

From 2026, Women’s Masters will receive support from the grant until the end of 2027. The funding will attract new clubs to start a Women’s Masters team and more players, while ensuring inclusive spaces are created for women in the sport, regardless of ageexperience or activity level.

At the heart of Masters Rugby League is a welcoming community built on friendship, confidence and shared enjoyment of the game. The grant will support more women to discover not only the physical and wellbeing benefits of staying active, but also the lasting connections, encouragement and sense of belonging that come from being part of a team.

The beauty of Masters Rugby League is that there is no competition structure, no leagues and no points, which gives potential new clubs the time and opportunity to practise and learn the game without the pressure of organised games as soon as they register. Clubs can join the fixtures calendar when they feel comfortable to do so, while individual players who feel confident to play games against other teams are able to play for any RFL-affiliated club.

Masters Rugby League is a strictly social version of the sport for players aged 35+ in Men’s Masters and 30+ in Women’s Masters. The focus is on enjoyment, fitness and friendship, with players taking part in a modified version of Rugby League designed for the older player.
