It's another big Saturday across the NCRL National Leagues, and the tables are starting to take shape. You can feel the season settling into its bones, can’t you? Teams showing who they really are, others still trying to work out what they’re about.
In the Premier Division, West Hull are still perfect - nine from nine - and they’ll fancy keeping that rolling at home to Wigan St Judes, though Judes have a habit of making life awkward for anyone.
Just behind them, Hunslet ARLFC are flying too, eight wins from nine, and they host Waterhead Warriors in what feels like a proper test of where both sides are at. Waterhead can score from anywhere, but Hunslet have been ruthless in recent weeks and are starting to look a real handful.
Thatto Heath Crusaders head up to Wath Brow Hornets, and that’s always a game with a bit of bite. Siddal at home to Heworth looks like one they should control, but Heworth have been better than their record suggests. And at the bottom, Rochdale Mayfield are still searching for that first win, and they welcome York Acorn, who’ve had their own struggles. Someone’s season might just turn there.
Into Division One, and the title race is shaping up beautifully. Kells and Dewsbury Celtic are neck and neck at the top, both on 16 points, both playing with real confidence. Kells host East Leeds, who are dangerous on their day, while Celtic travel to Wigan St Pats, who’ve quietly won five of their games. It could be an interesting afternoon there.
Third meets fourth as Dewsbury Moor Maroons take on Egremont Rangers which looks like a cracker on paper. Stanningley and Pilkington Recs both need a lift, and Oldham St Annes will be desperate to find something against Shaw Cross Sharks.
Up in Cumbria, Dalton are still perfect and host Ulverston, while Hensingham keep the pressure on against Hindpool Tigers. Barrow Island v Ellenborough is the pick of the bunch — fourth versus third, both with points to prove.
In the North West, it’s first versus second: Blackbrook away at Orrell St James. That one sells itself.
Across Yorkshire A and B, the leaders all look strong, but there are banana skins everywhere. And in the South, unbeaten Wests Warriors head to Bedford Tigers in a game that could tell us plenty.
