Blackpool Belles to host first Women’s Masters Festival this Saturday

Blackpool Belles to host first Women’s Masters Festival this Saturday

Blackpool Belles will host the very first all-women’s Masters Festival this Saturday (April 27) with six teams set to take part in the historic event.

Saturday’s festival will mark another significant milestone for the social variant with increasing the number of Women’s Masters teams considered a key area of growth this year.

Blackpool Belles, Folly Lane, Leigh Miners, Heysham Atoms, Leyland Warriors and Golborne Parkside are all confirmed to take part in the event which will take place at South Shore Cricket and Squash Club from 10am.

Fidelma Holland of Blackpool Belles says:

“Everyone at Blackpool Belles is really proud to play their part in growing the sport of Women’s Masters Rugby League and in the true spirit of the game, we’re honoured to host the first women’s only festival which will also raise funds for Ovarian Cancer.

“We’re all looking forward to donning our rugby boots and proving that there is no age limit to playing the sport you enjoy.  The day will be rounded off with the usual festivities and more fundraising for a worthy cause.”

Masters Women’s Officer, Mina Patel, explains:

“The ability to run a Women’s only Masters Rugby League event demonstrates the growth in the game over the last two years. It also highlights the inclusivity of Rugby League proving age is not a limiting factor. Fun and physicality will be combined when Masters ladies take the field this Saturday.”

The fixtures for this weekend's Masters Festival can be found here.

Masters Rugby League is strictly a social version of the sport for players aged 35+ for Men’s Masters and 30+ for Women’s Masters. The aim is for enjoyment, fitness benefits and social aspects whilst players engage in a version of Rugby League modified for ‘the older player.’ Anyone interested should contact their local clubs which can be found on Masters RL (rugby-league.com).
