Super Sunday in the capital as Women’s Super League South reaches semi-finals stage

The semi-finals of Rugby League’s Women’s Super League (WSL) South take place this Sunday (August 13) with Army Rugby League, Bedford Tigers, Cardiff Demons and London Broncos all in contention for a Grand Final place following the conclusion of the regular season.

The Demons, who retained their crown in 2022 by beating London Broncos in the Grand Final, ended this year’s campaign with five wins from five and also made an impressive run to the quarter finals of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup. They host Bedford Tigers at Cardiff University on Sunday (KO 2pm) – the Tigers currently sit fourth in the WSL South and will be looking for revenge after succumbing to a 4-46 loss against their opposition in July.

The other semi-final will be contested between Army Rugby League and London Broncos at Rosslyn Park (KO 3pm.) Since forming only three years ago the Broncos have made rapid progress, with four of their first team players featuring for the England Community Lions earlier this year. Army Rugby League are looking to reach their second Grand Final – their first appearance ending in a narrow 30-26 loss to reigning champions Cardiff Demons.

The winners from both fixtures will progress to the Grand Final which will be played at Rosslyn Park on Sunday August 27.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the WSL South will play an integral part of a new national pyramid which will come into play next season. From 2024 the Betfred Women’s Super League will expand to an eight-team competition, underpinned by four feeder leagues in North, Roses (existing clubs from the BWSL, Championship and League One across the M62 corridor), Midlands and South – establishing a pathway for ambitious clubs from all parts of the UK to earn promotion to the elite level.
