England Women star Georgia Roche has signed a five-year contract with NRLW side Newcastle Knights ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
Roche, 22, joins the Knights from Leeds Rhinos where she spent three years plying her trade in the Betfred Women’s Super League, following earlier spells with Featherstone Rovers and Castleford Tigers.
In 2018, the talented ball playing stand-off made her international debut for England at just 18 years of age, and in the same month, was named as the inaugural Woman of Steel.
Her meteoric rise continued with nominations for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and rugby league’s coveted international Golden Boot award at the end of that same season.
Knights NRLW Head Coach Ronald Griffiths believes this signature compliments their squad.
“Georgia is a well-rounded footballer who is equally adept in defence or attack,” said Griffiths.
“Furthermore, Georgia is a tough, uncompromising player who I believe follows on from the tradition of players from the Knights yesteryear.
“It’s refreshing to hear Georgia’s philosophy of gratitude towards taking this opportunity to develop herself and be the best version of herself for the Newcastle Knights.”
