Dewsbury Rams extended their unbeaten run at the top of Betfred League One to eleven games after defeating Cornwall 30-6 at Penryn’s Memorial Ground on Sunday afternoon.
Try scorers for the Rams were Jimmy Beckett, Caelum Jordan (x2), Brad Graham and Lewis Carr. Calum Turner also kicked four goals for Liam Finn’s side.
Cornwall produced a heroic, battling effort against the league leaders, and limited the Rams to just six first half points, which arrived through Beckett and the boot of Turner.
After the break, the hosts responded in emphatic fashion to claim a shock score of their own after Coby Nichol capitalised on a wayward Dewsbury pass to touch down. Cam Brown then duly added the extras to level the scoring with just over 30 minutes remaining.
Their resurgence would be short lived, however, as Bailey O’Connor broke through the Kernow backline, before sending the onrushing Jordan over.
This score would spark an impressive spell from the visitors, who claimed a further three scores to put the result beyond doubt.
Cornwall will take plenty of positives from their spirited performance though, with a trip to Hunslet on the cards for next weekend.
Elsewhere, Oldham ran in 11 tries at the New River Stadium as Stuart Littler’s side cruised to a 62-14 victory against London Skolars.
Patrick Ah Van crossed for a hat-trick, whilst Jordan Paga, Kian Morgan, Gregg McNally, Zac Baker, Samy Kibula, Matty Wilkinson, Luke Nelmes and Sean Slater were also on the scoresheet.
Martyn Ridyard scored six goals, with Ah Van kicking a further three.
Leighton Ball, Matt Ross and Jacob Thomas crossed for the hosts, but they could not prevent a Roughyeds win.
Finally, second-placed Doncaster continued their fine start to the season with a convincing 42-20 triumph over Rochdale Hornets.
Sam Smeaton’s hat-trick moves the 34-year-old to joint top in the League One scoring charts with 13 tries, also on the scoresheet were Josh Guzdek, Ben Johnston, Matty James and Connor Robinson.
Cameron Berry, Oliver Brookes (x2) and Dan Nixon crossed over for the Hornets.
North Wales Crusaders’ fixture against Workington Town was postponed due to pitch unavailability.
