The Betfred Super League is officially under way and players of all ages and abilities are being encouraged to get involved with the game and take up Touch Rugby League.
Touch Rugby League is:
- a minimal contact version of Rugby League;
- open to any aged player, with any fitness level or sporting ability and teams are mixed gender;
- a 6-a-side game played on a pitch dimension of 70m X 50m. However, as little as 3-a-side games can take place, with adjustments to the pitch size;
- a games of two x 20-minute halves; perfect for beginners or families looking to get fit in a fun and sociable setting.
Bradley Kelk, Social Officer at the Rugby Football League, explains: “The main difference between Touch Rugby League and the traditional sport is that tackles are made by a touch to the rugby ball, clothes, or body of the ball carrier so it’s perfect for beginners who are looking to get active in a fun and friendly way.”
“Our long-term aim is for Community clubs to run their own Touch activity which would provide a rugby playing opportunity for everyone within their local area. For anyone who wants more information head to Rugby-League.com."
RFL Director of Participation and Development, Marc Lovering says: “Foundations across the country will be delivering some amazing Touch Rugby League activities, these range from weekly sessions to one-off events and leagues. They are a great way for anyone to get involved with the sport whether they have played Rugby League or not.”
“Our minimal contact social offers are becomingly increasingly popular, and they are really important to our overall strategy for the game and getting more people involved.”
