Saddleworth Rangers secretary Peter Townsend and his Wife Anne last week were honoured to represent the RFL Community Game at Westminster Abbey for the Royal Carol Service hosted by the Princess Of Wales for Together at Christmas. Also representing the RFL were members of the England World Cup Teams and Match Officials
Peter said that the "atmosphere in the Abbey was relaxed and informal as King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales led a number of the Royal Family to their seats. At the end of a wonderful, joyous service they once again walked slowly down the nave chatting to the congregation."
He added: "Anne and I have many memories of a surreal day which was so much more than a carol service but most of all I am so proud that the thousands of good people who are the backbone of our great game had recognition and a seat at the top table they so richly deserve."
A recording of Royal Carols at Christmas will be shown on Christmas Eve at 19.00hrs on ITV1.
