Betfred Super League Round-Up | Round 21

Betfred Super League leaders St Helens suffered a shock 44-12 defeat to Salford Red Devils on Sunday.

Joe Burgess scored two tries as Salford defied their injuries to take a 26-0 half-time lead, with Sitaleki Akauola, Dan Sarginson and Kallum Watkins also crossing.

Greg Burke's converted try stretched the lead to 32 and though Saints finally got on the board through Jack Welsby, Watkins' second and a Brodie Croft try added to the score before a late Alex Walmsley consolation.

Scrum-half Aidan Sezer scored the winning try as Leeds Rhinos edged to a 36-32 victory over Catalans Dragons in a golden-point thriller on Saturday having been 30-6 down with 12 men.

Fouad Yaha’s double and a try from Ben Jullien put the Dragons in control before Liam Sutcliffe crossed to make it 16-6 at the interval.

Leeds’ Matt Prior was sin-binned then sent off on his return to the field, as Sam Kasiano and Samisoni Langi added two more tries for Catalans.

But Richie Myler scored a hat-trick alongside tries from Brad Dwyer and match-winner Sezer to complete a remarkable comeback.

Huddersfield Giants scored three tries in the final 15 minutes to beat Warrington Wolves 32-22.

Jack Wardle crossed to open the scoring and Stefan Ratchford added four goals to put the Wire in a strong position.

Ashton Golding and Adam O’Brien both crossed in the first half for the Giants but Matty Ashton went over twice for Warrington to counter Josh Jones’ try.

Huddersfield then bounced back, with Innes Senior, Will Pryce and Owen Trout all scoring late.

Bevan French and Liam Marshall both scored hat-tricks as Wigan Warriors hammered Hull KR 46-4 on Thursday.

Early tries from French, Marshall and Mike Cooper, his first for the club, put Warriors ahead and French added a second before Ethan Ryan pulled one back for Rovers.

Kai Pearce-Paul crossed after the break and Patrick Mago got his first for the club before Marshall and French completed their hat-tricks.

In Friday's fixtures, Wakefield Trinity ended Castleford Tigers’ seven-year derby dominance with a 32-6 victory to move from the bottom of the table, their first win in 18 meetings.

Liam Hood put Trinity in front, crossing from close range, before winger Lewis Murphy scored his first of two tries.

Matty Ashurst went over for Wakefield’s third just before the break and Murphy got his second from an impressive 80-metre run.

Prop David Fifita capped a relentless attack off with a fifth try before the Tigers earned a late consolation through Danny Richardson.

Struggling Toulouse Olympique XIII were handed their 16th defeat of the season with a 30-6 loss to Hull FC.

The French side took the lead seven minutes in when James Cunningham crossed but Hull pulled back with tries from Josh Simm, Ellis Longstaff, Will Smith and Jack Brown before Harvey Barron scored on his debut.
