York to host Junior Cup Finals

York to host Junior Cup Finals

This Sunday (July 17) York will host two junior national cup finals which will showcase some of the best junior players in the female game.

The matches will be held at York’s LNER Community Stadium which will play host to some top-quality women’s rugby league action during the Rugby League World Cup in November.

The first game on Sunday will kick-off 11:30 am and will see a under 14’s War of the Roses clash as North West Cup winners, Halton Farnworth Hornets take on Yorkshire Cup winners, Greetland All Rounders.

Halton Farnworth Hornets left it late to win the North West Cup. A last-minute try snatched the cup from the grasp of Warrington Wolves, with the Hornets coming out as 20-18 victors. Meanwhile, Greetland shocked unbeaten Shaw Cross in a tight 10-8 finale.

At 1 PM, it will be the turn of the under 16’s as Oulton Raidettes take on Leigh Miner Rangers in the Premier League Grand Final.

The clash will see two of the best girls’ teams in the country clash.  The two sides have already met twice in league action this year with the Raidettes coming out on top 22-18 and 24-18, but Leigh Miner Rangers will be out for revenge.

On route to the final, Oulton defeated Dewsbury Moor 48-12, meanwhile Leigh Miners defeated Orrell St James Eagles 32-6.

Both fixtures will take place ahead of the Betfred Women’s Super League clash between league leaders, York City Knights and the Huddersfield Giants. That fixture will get underway at 3:00 PM and will be shown live on The Sportsman.
