St Helens and Wigan each extended their winning starts to the Super League season to four matches after victories over Hull KR and Toulouse respectively.

England's Tommy Makinson was the star of defending champions Saints' 42-8 triumph at Sewell Group Craven Park on Friday, scoring a hat-trick of tries as well as being successful with five from eight conversions.

There were also braces for Lewis Dodd and Sione Mata'utia, and Alex Walmsley added a further try for the visitors.

Second-placed Wigan then had to battle all the way to win in France on Saturday, coming from behind to scrape a 29-28 victory at bottom club Toulouse via a last-minute Harry Smith drop goal.

Having been 18-10 down at the break, the Warriors' second-half recovery saw Cade Cust, Liam Marshall and Jai Field - for the second time in the contest - score tries before Smith's late strike.

Huddersfield are up to third after Ian Watson masterminded their first home win over his former club Salford for nine years on Sunday.

Will Pryce was one of five home try scorers and kicked five goals in the Giants' 34-2 victory.

Catalans Dragons brushed off the absence of eight regulars to secure a first away win over Warrington for 11 years and inflict a maiden defeat of the season on Daryl Powell's men.

Mitchell Pearce scored his first Super League try and his half-back partner Josh Drinkwater produced a kicking masterclass as the Dragons condemned a full-strength Wolves outfit to a 24-18 defeat at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Both sides have six points, along with Huddersfield.

Greg Eden scored a hat-trick as Lee Radford secured his first win as Castleford coach with a 33-26 victory over his former club Hull FC.

Eden excelled in his first game of the season, whilst Paul McShane and Gareth O'Brien were outstanding leading an inexperienced Tigers side to victory in a full-blooded game featuring 11 tries.

There was also a hat-trick for Ash Handley as Leeds broke their duck for the season in style with a 34-18 victory over Wakefield at Belle Vue on Thursday.

The Rhinos were boosted by the return of overseas duo Rhyse Martin and David Fusitu'a and a first appearance of the season by Harry Newman and all three made their mark.

Fusitu'a scored his first try for the club and Newman capped an impressive display with a classy try while Martin, back from compassionate leave in Australia, kicked five goals from seven attempts.

Wakefield, like Toulouse, remain without a point on the board.
