Keighley into Betfred League 1 play-off semi-final

Keighley into Betfred League 1 play-off semi-final

Keighley Cougars progressed to the Betfred League 1 play-off semi-final with a hard-fought 28-14 win at North Wales Crusaders on Saturday night.

The Cougars will visit Workington next time out for a place in the play-off final, while North Wales take on the winner of tomorrow's eliminator between Doncaster and Hunslet.

Keighley had the better of the first half but the home side held firm to train 14-6 at the interval.

Jake Webster and Jack Miller were the visitors' tryscorers, Miller booting three first-half goals for a 14-0 advantage, before Brad Billsborough struck on the half time hooter, Tommy Johnson converting.

Johnson then kicked a penalty goal of his own soon after the restart, and Patrick Ah Van went in minutes later. Johnson converted again to make it 14-all with 45 minutes played.

But, led around the field by Miller and the experienced Scott Murrell, Keighley worked their way back ahead.

Miller's boot put his side 16-14 up with 55 minutes gone, before Brendan Santi stepped forward to stretch the Keighley lead further.

The Italian international forward scored twice just moments either side of the 70-minute mark and Miller of course kicked both goals to leave the visitors 14 points up - a lead they never looked likely to relinquish again.
