Hull FC came out on top in a thrilling derby clash with rivals Hull KR, winning 23-22 to boost their bid for a top-six spot in the Betfred Super League table.
Bureta Faraimo scored two tries for the home side, who also touched down through Adam Swift and Carlos Tuimavave. Marc Sneyd kicked two conversions, a penalty and a decisive second-half drop-goal.
The margin of victory could have been wider but Tuimavave had two scores chalked off and Cameron Scott also saw his try disallowed.
Rovers’ tries came through Jimmy Keinhorst, Rowan Milnes, Albert Vete and Ben Crooks, who also converted three of their scores, with Milnes missing a drop goal in the first half.
St Helens comfortably won a feisty derby at the DW Stadium, securing a 26-2 win over Wigan Warriors which virtually ended their rivals’ hopes of a top-two finish.
The champions led 12-2 at the break courtesy of tries from Regan Grace and Lewis Dodd and added others in the second half through Mark Percival and Alex Walmsley to bounce back from their shock home defeat by Castleford in style.
Leeds Rhinos took inspiration from the appearance of popular former player Rob Burrow on an emotional evening at Headingley to grind out an 18-12 victory over Huddersfield Giants.
Guest of honour Burrow was given a warm welcome by the 10,000-strong crowd ahead of the game before fans clapped in the seventh minute as a mark of respect for the former Leeds number seven - and they were cheering again when acting captain Ash Handley opened the scoring with his third try in as many matches.
Huddersfield drew level with a try from stand-off Will Pryce, but the Rhinos gradually got on top and scored further tries through Richie Myler and Robert Lui to lead 18-4, before Huddersfield grabbed late consolation tries through Sam Wood and Owen Trout after the home side were reduced to 12 men with the sin-binning of Zane Tetevano.
Skipper Liam Hood and Adam Sidlow scored decisive late tries as Leigh defeated neighbours Salford 32-22 to register a first victory of the season.
With Centurions clinging to a precarious 20-16 lead, hooker Hood burrowed over five minutes from time.
Prop Sidlow then provided extra insurance with his team’s fourth try to ensure Leigh’s first win of the season after 16 successive defeats.
Craig Mullen added both conversions to finish with 16 points from eight successful kicks, five of them penalties.
Castleford Tigers edged Wakefield Trinity 23-18 to extend their winning run over their neighbours to 16 games, continuing an unbeaten streak that goes back to 2015.
A brace from Greg Eden ensured the Tigers triumphed over their derby rivals and clinched a third Super League victory in a row, keeping them in the hunt for a potential play-off place.
Tries for Oliver Holmes and Derrell Olpherts, along with four goals from Danny Richardson, cemented Castleford’s tense derby win.
