Widnes Vikings 20-21 London Broncos

#Super8s #DareToDream

The Qualifiers Super 8s started with Widnes Vikings and London Bronocs and ended with a grandstand finish which saw Danny Ward's Broncos team claim an important scalp in the race for a place in the Betfred Super League for 2019.

The opening exchanges of the match saw both teams muscle up in defence limited opportunities for both attacks to break the deadlock.

At the break, the teams could only be separated by a converted try from young Vikings fullback Olly Ashall-Bott.

The second half saw London start the stronger with Mark Ioane crossing the white line to bring the Broncos back to within two points.

A try from Chris Dean saw the Vikings extend their lead before Broncos added some urgency to their play and started to mount a comeback.

Broncos struck with back to back tries including through Harrison and Dixon to level the scores 14-14 with a little less than twenty minutes to play.

Four minutes later and the Broncos were over again to take the lead for the first time in the match. Kieran Dixon scored his second of the match taking an intercepted pass from Liam Finn before racing 80m to score under the sticks. Sammut added the conversion to give the Londoners a 20-14 lead with thirteen minutes left to play.

Widnes pressed hard to find a way through the Broncos defence and it was Krisnan Inu who found his way over with a burrowing try to place the ball on the line. Inu converted his own try to level the scores with just five minutes left.

With the Qualifiers competition expected to tight, both teams knew a draw wasn't the result they needed.

After a failed drop goal attempt from Joe Mellor, the Broncos pushed up field and found the ball in the hands of murcurial half back Jarrod Sammut just twenty metres out... Sammut slotted the one pointer and London Broncos claimed an important opening win.
