Rugby League to be shown live on Twitch in 2020

The online streaming service Twitch will again show Rugby League live in 2020, after reaching an agreement with the Rugby Football League (RFL) to continue its ground-breaking partnership.

Last year the RFL became UK sport’s first national governing body to screen fixtures live through Twitch’s streaming service, which attracted almost 900,000 live views in 2019. Coverage began with the Betfred Women’s Super League opener between Wigan Warriors and St Helens, concluded with the Women’s Grand Final between Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos, and in between included matches from Betfred League 1, the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup, Coral Women’s Challenge Cup and the Academy Origin series.

And women’s rugby league will kick off 2020 season coverage too, beginning on Sunday 1 March with round one of the Coral Women’s Challenge Cup. The first round draw takes place on Monday 10 February and will be broadcast live on Our League at 7.15pm.

Mark Foster, the RFL’s Chief Commercial Officer, said:
“Having the Our League app gives us the content to broadcast through completely new platforms such as Twitch. In 2019 we worked closely with Twitch to bring the game to a new and younger audience, and I’m delighted that we’ll continue to do that during 2020.

“Twitch have been very supportive of Rugby League from the outset, streaming dramatic games such as last season’s memorable AB Sundecks 1895 Cup semi-final between Leigh Centurions and Widnes Vikings. We’ll be showing a game from every round of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup this year and we’re hoping for more of the same as teams battle it out to reach Wembley, where the revised midday kick off is an added incentive.”

Twitch is a video live streaming service operated by Twitch Interactive, a subsidiary of Amazon.
