New Zealand Residents 28 England Community Lions 12

England Community Lions went down to a spirited defeat to the New Zealand Residents in their final tour game.

Thatto Heath forward Connor Dwyer opened the scoring for the tourists after 20 minutes. That was converted by West Hull's Ryan Wilson for a 6-0 lead.

That advantage lasted just four minutes before the Residents responded through centre Francis Leger. Geronimo Doyle hit the first of four goals and it was all level.

Four minutes from half-time, the Residents claimed their second score when Eiden Ackland slipped through the defence and the boot of Doyle made it 12-6 at half-time.

The hosts made the better start to the second half and scored quickly after the resumption. Wing Simon Luafaleo touched down inside the first couple of minutes of the half and opposite wing Ben Ilaio also got in on the act.

The Community Lions maintained their effort and hit back with a try from Orell St James skipper Dave Kennedy and Wilson goaled after 66 minutes.

New Zealand Residents made sure of the victory with a try five minutes from time by stand-off Tevin Arona, leaving the Lions to contemplate a 12-28 defeat.
