A charge of Grade C 'Dangerous contact' against St Helens forward Alex Walmsley has tonight been downgraded to Grade B on appeal.
An independent tribunal decided that the contact with Leeds Rhinos' Alex Sutcliffe during the recent Betfred Super League match was ‘careless’ rather than 'reckless'.
Walmsley will therefore serve a one, rather than two match suspension and will miss this Friday’s game against Wigan Warriors. He has also been fined £500.
Earlier today Salford Red Devils' Kallum Watkins and James Greenwood, and Leeds Rhinos' Tom Holroyd, all accepted Match Review Panel decisions in relation to 'Dangerous contact' with opponents, none of which carried a match penalty.
