Rugby League celebrates London Pride with inclusive Try Tag Rugby tournament in East London

Try Tag Rugby hosted its annual Pride Tournament at East London Rugby Club in June, bringing the Rugby League community together for an all-welcome LGBTQIA+ event that celebrated inclusion, Pride and participation through sport.

This year’s tournament saw outstanding growth, welcoming more than 200 people and 16 teams. The event also raised over £1,000 for Terrence Higgins Trust, supporting vital services including its sexual health helpline, HIV testing, counselling and peer support programmes.

The tournament was elevated by a joyful atmosphere and an inclusive, supportive environment, giving attendees the chance to get involved, meet new people and celebrate Pride through Rugby League.

Lily, tournament participant, travelled from Ireland for the tournament, and said: “Any opportunity to come over and celebrate Pride, celebrate inclusivity in tag and just have a load of fun with friends and with people who enjoy all the best aspects of Tag Rugby.”

Mikayla Dennelly, East London Regional Manager, said: “I think it is so important that in such a fun and wonderful community, we ensure all our members feel welcomed, included, safe and celebrated. The Pride Tournament gives us an opportunity to celebrate, play rugby, and party all in the name of inclusivity and charity. Name a better way to spend a Friday night... I’ll wait.”
