Hull KR may not be involved in the first round of the Betfred Super League Play-Offs this weekend, but their Sewell Group Craven Park fortress will host a highly significant Rugby League event nevertheless.
The British Army take on the RAF in a triple header of Inter-Services fixtures on Sunday September 28 – men’s Academy (11am kick-off), Women’s (130pm) and finally the Men’s 1st XIII fixture kicking off at 4pm.
The matches, concluding the annual Inter Services series which have already featured triple headers in Portsmouth and Wakefield, are also acting as a launchpad for a new initiative to strengthen Rugby League’s relationship with the Army specific to the latter’s engagement in the north.
There will be a carnival atmosphere on the day, with Hull KR’s famous Craven Streat end hosting an immersive military display, live music from the British Army Band Catterick, and a spectacular appearance from the Red Devils Parachute Display Team.
The RFL have been working closely with the Army’s Engagement North programme throughout the year, with the St Helens legend James Roby setting the tone as guest speaker at the Army Sport North Awards in Catterick in February.
