Wigan Warriors successfully defended their Women’s Nines title on Saturday (5 July) following a jam-packed day of festival action at West Park Leeds.
Wigan went through to the Semi-Finals of the competition with solid wins over Hull KR and Barrow Raiders in the group stages, winning both games to nil.
In the quarter final against St Helens, the Cherry & White were dominant as they ran in seven unanswered tries to progress to the next stage where they faced Championship side Swinton Lionesses. Denis Betts’ side continued their fine form in the Semi-Finals, coming away with a 25-0 win to setup a Final against Huddersfield Giants.
The Warriors were more than convincing against the Giants, scoring three unconverted tries to lift the trophy for a second consecutive year.
Huddersfield began their day with a 12-0 defeat of St Helens before another dominating 18-4 defeat of London Broncos.
The Giants then topped off their perfect group stage run with an emphatic 30-0 victory against Leamington Royals.
There was a Yorkshire derby in the Championship semi-finals with Huddersfield celebrating a tight 8-4 win against their rivals Leeds – but it wasn’t meant to be with the side eventually falling short to Wigan.
2025 saw a new format for the Women’s Nines Festival with two new titles up for grabs on Saturday – the Cup and Shield.
Wakefield Trinity were victorious against Midlands outfit Leamington Royals in the Shield Final with Leigh Leopards overcoming London Broncos 15-8 to clinch the Cup.
