Workington Town have announced the re-signing of Australian half-back Jarrod Sammut for the 2024 season.
The versatile playmaker, known for his creative masterclasses, re-joins Town from Cumbrian rivals Barrow Raiders and has previously enjoyed a productive period at Workington in 2015 whilst on loan. This was before signing permanently in 2015, making 37 appearances, and scoring an impressive 33 tries – becoming a firm fan favourite at the club.
Sammut has enjoyed previous stints in the Betfred Super League with Crusaders RL, Bradford Bulls, and Wakefield Trinity respectively - and most recently Wigan Warriors in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
He also went on to play for Featherstone Rovers, Leigh, and London Broncos before his short stint at the Raiders, with his career record totalling over 1700 points from just over 300 games.
Workington’s star man will aim to bring his points potential and competitive nature to the side, as well as his much needed experience - as the club aims to be pushing at the top end of the Betfred League One table in 2024.
Workington Town also added in a statement:
“The signing has been made possible by a number of factors and the solid base the club has built on and off the field over the last 12 months has created a platform to build upon.
“The significant additional funding provided by the Blue Knights support group has enabled the club to proceed with confidence and we thank them and encourage any other like minded supporters to join the group so we can continue to attract players to the club. We would also like to thank the 100 club and the 1945 club for their support in assisting squad building in 2024.”
