England v Tonga Preview

England v Tonga Preview

Shaun Wane’s England side will be looking to end the three-match test series with a whitewash when the sides meet tomorrow (Saturday 4 November).

England have claimed victory in the opening two matches in St Helens and last week in Huddersfield.

Mikey Lewis took centre stage on his debut during the opening game. The Hull KR star broke through the Tongan defence before being hauled down short, which then Toby King scored seconds later.

Lewis scored later in the half, before Tom Johnstone added a second half brace during the 22-18 victory.

Matty Ashton took advantage of an opportunity in the side. The Warrington winger scored twice, which were his first two tries for England. Harry Smith added a second half penalty during the 14-4 victory in wet conditions.

Wane has called upon Josh Thewlis and Morgan Smithies, who have both been added to the squad. Toby King and Victor Radley are both out of the side due to injuries.

Captain, George Williams returns to the side. Williams missed the opening two matches after receiving a two match suspension. Mikey Lewis has been replaced by Williams

Tonga will be looking to avoid a 3-0 series defeat when they head to Headingley.

Kristian Woolf’s side were narrowly defeated in Game One, however, after conceding an early try they were unable to get a foothold in Game Two.

Tonga have suffered a few injuries during the series and could be without some of their stars.

The game will take place at 2:30 and is part of a double-header with England Women, who face Wales at 12PM.
