England secured the series against Tonga with a game to spare after victory in the Second Test in Huddersfield. The hosts started quickly, with Marty Ashton opening the scoring inside the first six minutes.
After spreading the ball to the right, Ashton avoided the Tongan defence to dive over in the corner. Later in the half, the lead was extended to 8-0 as Harry Smith added a penalty. Ashton, who scored his first ever England try earlier in the afternoon, was again on the scoresheet. Mikey Lewis prodded a kick behind the defensive line and the Winger won the race to score. Smith was unable to convert which gave England a 12-0 advantage at the break.
The scoring in the second half started with an England penalty in the 48th minute. With just under 25 minutes to go, Tonga struck through Toluta’u Koula. However, that was the last of the scoring and England ran out 14-4 victors.
The two sides will head to AMT Headingley Rugby Ground on Saturday for the final test. The test will take place at 2:30PM and is part of a double-header as England Women face Wales with kick-off at 12PM.
