Registrations Opens For England Universities Regionals

Registration is now open for the England Universities Rugby League Regional Trials, with all players having ambitions to play for England in 2024 invited to register.
Last year England managed a clean sweep, taking back the RFL President’s Cup for the first time since 2018 with victories over GB Police, GB Teachers and UK Armed Forces before a win over HM Prison Service in a friendly. They then went unbeaten in the Student Rugby League Four Nations, recording wins over Ireland, Scotland and posting a record margin win over Wales.
This year will see England again compete in the RFL President’s Cup and plans are still being shaped for the international element of the programme, due to be announced in due course.
“2024 is a set to be another exciting year” sad Kevin Deighton, England Universities Head Coach. “We are working on some very exciting anniversary plans which we hope to announce shortly which will definitely be of interest to players wishing to earn England honours.”
“Last year the group achieved a huge amount, with the majority of the players noting that they had improved on the pitch as a result of the programme. We will select the best performing players regardless of their background in the game or their location – the process is open and transparent and all of the England staff are committed to giving everyone from all four corners of the country and equal opportunity to represent England.”
The pathway to England starts with selection for the region in which a student is studying, with a round of inter-regional games. All three games will take place at Sheffield Hallam University’s Sports Park on Saturday 2nd December 2023 – Fixtures are to be confirmed, but will kick off at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
Following the inter-regional games, players are selected for their Origin side with Midlands, South East and South West aligning to the South, and North West, North East and Yorkshire aligning to the North. The University Origin Match takes place in early February.
Trials for the regional sides will take place during November, with exact details and details of each region’s coaching staff to be announced shortly.
All students who wish to trial need to register their interest by no later than Friday 3rdNovember. To register your interest please do so here!
