Wigan Warriors book place in Betfred Wheelchair Grand Final

Wigan Warriors will play in two Grand Finals in Manchester next weekend, after their Wheelchair team won a thrilling semi final against the London Roosters.

It means that just under 24 hours after Matt Peet’s Warriors kick off the Betfred Super League Grand Final against Catalans Dragons at Old Trafford, the club’s Wheelchair team will take on Leeds Rhinos across the city at the National Basketball Centre in Belle Vue – with a 530pm kick-off on Sunday October 15.

Wigan travelled to the University of East London’s Dock Sport as second favourites after finishing third in the table behind the Roosters who were second after a breakthrough season.

But they started superbly with two tries each for Dec Roberts and Jack Heggie helping them to establish a 36-24 half-time lead.

The second half was much tighter, with Heggie completing his hat-trick for Wigan, but tries from Jason Owen and Scott Trigg-Turner keeping the Roosters in touch.

It took a cool drop goal from Roberts to complete a 43-34 win which gives the Warriors a chance to gain revenge for the defeat they suffered against Leeds in the 2021 Grand Final.
