It’s England versus Wales in the inspiresport Champion Schools Year 10 Girls Final

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf and The Brooksbank School will make history on Saturday 3 June when they take the field at St. James’ Park for the inspiresport Champion Schools Year 10 Girls Final – part of a feast of entertainment at Betfred Super League's Magic Weekend in Newcastle.

Both schools secured their place in the climax of the competition with victories in their respective semi-finals at Warrington’s Crosfields Club on 9 May.

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf became the first Welsh girls’ team to win a Champion Schools trophy last year thanks to an incredible 18-10 victory against a talented Archbishop Sentamu side in the Year 9 Final. 12 months on and the Cardiff side are continuing their success, reaching the Year 10 final with a hard-earned 14-10 win against local school Culcheth High.

The Brooksbank School from Elland overcame Widnes high school Wade Deacon 22-16 to reach their very first Year 10 Girls Final and are now looking to go one step further than their Year 11 team who lost out to St John Fisher in the Year 11 Girls Final in April.

In another sign of the progress being made in the Girls’ game, there will also be an all-female Match Officials team taking charge of the fixture in the form of Megan Mills, Rhiannon Horsmann, Niamh Bragg, Esmai Wright, Olivia Leech and Rebecca Floyd.

The Year 10 Girls Final will kick off Magic Weekend at 11:30am, before Salford Red Devils play Hull Kingston Rovers in the first Super League fixture of the weekend at 1.30pm.

The inspiresport Champion Schools consists of 10 separate competitions, covering Years 7 to 11 for Boys and Girls, with qualifying matches throughout the academic year building to Finals which also include the Year 7 Boys Final at Wembley as the traditional curtain-raiser before the Challenge Cup Final on Saturday August – this year a double header featuring the Women's Final as well as the Men's for the first time.

Tickets to Magic Weekend are available online now from just £25 for adults, and £12.50 for Juniors.
