Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round Nine

Toulouse moved back up to second place, as they defeat Keighley Cougars on Saturday. The French side overtook Sheffield, who play on Monday evening against Swinton Lions live on Viaplay Sports.

Tries from Anthony Marion and Josh Ralph put the visitors into a 10-0 half-time lead at Cougar Park.

Toulouse added four further tries, which included a second for Ralph, on route to the 34-6 away success.

On Sunday, the Betfred Championship league leaders, Featherstone Rovers, extended their 100% league record with an away win against London Broncos.

Caleb Aekins opened the scoring with a brace inside the first 17 minutes of the contest.

Brad Day and Connor Jones also touched down to give Rovers a 22-0 half-time lead.

Day added his second after the break, meanwhile Jones scored twice to complete a hat-trick during the 40-10 win for Featherstone in the capital.

Iliess Macani and Jarred Bassett scored London’s two tries.

Batley Bulldogs edged out the Bradford Bulls in a close contest at Odsal.

Lucas Walshaw gave Batley a lead, before two goals from on-loan Luke Hooley extended their lead to 8-0. Billy Jowitt hit back for Bradford before the break.

Hooley added another penalty in the second half, before David Foggin-Johnson touched down in the corner.

Josh Hodson reached out to score and put the Bulldogs back into a lead. Hooley added further points with a penalty, before Josh Woods kicked a drop goal putting Batley into a seven point lead with eight minutes remaining.

A fourth Hooley penalty stretched the lead further; however, a Tom Holmes try in the final minute proved to be a consolation score for Bradford.

Halifax Panthers bounced back to winning ways with a home win over York.

Lachlan Walmsley scored two first half tries to give the Panthers a 10-0 lead.

Jacob Fairbank extended the Halifax lead. York responded four minutes from the end with a James Glover try.

Whitehaven moved up to ninth after their home win over Newcastle.

Haven came into the contest with four wins out of their opening eight matches and they started strongly in Round Nine.

Josh Rourke kicked a penalty, before Karl Dixon went over for the first try of the game.

Alex Bishop, Tom Walker, Perry Singleton and Josh Rourke all added tries as Whitehaven pulled away into a 30-0 lead.

Alex Donaghy scored a late try for the visitors, but it was Whitehaven who had the final say thanks to a drop-goal by Jamie Doran.

Widnes defeated a Barrow Raiders’ who were searching for a first away win of the 2023 Betfred Championship season.

A Ryan Shaw penalty gave Barrow an early lead, but tries from Adam Lawton and Zach Eckersley put the Vikings in the driving seat.

Jack Owens produced a drop-goal as the hooter sounded to give Widnes a 13-2 lead.

Luke Broadbent gave the visits a lifeline, but within ten minutes Danny Craven had struck back for Widnes.

Ryan Ince dived over in the corner, before a consolation score from Josh Wood narrowed the gap to 11 points late on.
