The Betfred Super League is officially under way and people looking for a new way to keep fit and have fun whilst learning new skills are being encouraged to take up Tag Rugby League.
Tag Rugby League is:
· for anybody aged 14+, with varying fitness levels and sporting ability;
· a 7-a-side game with unlimited substitutions;
· a minimal contact form of Rugby League where tackles are made by removing a tag from the player in possession of the ball;
· a game where tries are scored in the traditional way, but no conversions take place;
· a game of two x 20-minute halves on a pitch approximately 70m X 45m;
· delivered in partnership with Try Tag Rugby (TTR) who run weekly mixed, men’s and women’s leagues all year round for adults and teens across the country as well as a number of one day events throughout the year;
RFL Social Officer, Bradley Kelk, explains: “Tag Rugby League is a brilliant offer because there is no training required. The weekly session is a friendly league match, making it perfect for players to fit into a busy lifestyle.”
“Players can join a team as an individual or enter a new team and leagues vary in standard from beginners right up to the more experienced rugby player. If you think Tag Rugby League is for you then head to the Try Tag Rugby website to find out more.”
Carl Duckels, National Licence Manager at Try Tag Rugby, says: “Playing Tag Rugby League is really rewarding, with lots of the players saying their weekly game is one of the highlights of their week. We run Free Taster Sessions throughout the year and have lots coming up in April, so anybody who hasn’t played before can come and experience what’s on offer.”
“With Tagging instead of tackling it’s really inclusive. Nearly anybody can play and with leagues running all year round you never have to go without your Rugby League fix! As well as being a fantastic way to keep fit, there is a great social side, with weekly after match socials. We also run lots of social events throughout the year including our National TagFest series which gives an opportunity for players to get involved all over the UK.”
