Betfred Championship Round-Up | Round Five

Toulouse Olympique kicked Round Five off in dominant fashion.

Sylvan Houles’ side welcomed Whitehaven to France on Saturday evening.

Pierre-Jean Lima and Jake Shorrocks both crossed for hat-tricks as Toulouse scored 12 tries during the 72-10 hammering.

On Sunday, five games took place with some very interesting scorelines.

In Cumbria, Paul Crarey’s Barrow Raiders were looking for their first victory of 2023.

Jarrad Stack opened the scoring for Barrow, before Alex Clegg and Marcus Walker putting Thunder ahead at the break.

The sides traded tries with the Raiders leading 18-16 with 20 minutes remaining.

A Nikau Williams penalty 11 minutes from the end was enough to share the points.

Elsewhere, Halifax came from behind to beat Batley at The Shay.

Lachlan Walmsley scored another brace during the home win.

Batley led for much of the contest, but a James Saltonstall try with 15 minutes to go secured the two points for the Panthers.

Keighley were another side who came from behind for a home victory.

London headed into half time with a 16-4 lead at Cougar Park.

A second half fight back, saw two tries from Charlie Graham, along with three other Cougars’ tries as they got back up to win 33-22.

Sheffield produced a dominant home display against Widnes.

Matty Dawson-Jones scored a double. Meanwhile, Ben Jones-Bishop, Titus Gwaze, Brandon Douglas, Matty Chrimes and Corey Aston added the other tries for Sheffield as they moved into third with a 42-12 win.

Ryan Ince and Danny Craven scored the tries for Widnes.

York was another side who put a strong performance in.

AJ Towse, Myles Harrison and Joe Brown all crossed for braces.

The 40-0 success for Andrew Henderson’s is their third of the season, which sees them move up to fourth in the table.

Featherstone opened up a two point lead at the top of the Betfred Championship after their victory over Bradford Bulls.

Rovers opened the scoring through Riley Dean, who skipped through the Bradford defence.

The Bulls hit back through former Featherstone man, Tom Holmes, before Kieran Gill then gave the visitors the lead shortly after.

Luke Briscoe added a try on his 200th appearance as Featherstone headed into half-time with the lead.

Featherstone controlled the second half, as Sean Long's side extended their run to five matches with the 26-12 success.
