2023 Betfred Championship Preview | Toulouse

2023 Betfred Championship Preview | Toulouse

Toulouse will be looking to bounce back in 2023 after their relegation from the Betfred Super League.

The French side impressed at stages and made their home ground into a difficult place to visit.

Despite winning five of their matches, Toulouse did challenge many teams and were on the wrong end of some close contests.

When Toulouse were promoted in 2021, they won all 14 of their matches under head coach, Sylvain Houles.

Due to their relegation, Toulouse have lost numerous players and arguably some of their vital players during the Super League campaign.

Half-backs Tony Gigot and Corey Norman have both departed the club. Meanwhile, exciting forward Justin Sangare has joined up with the Super League runners-up from 2022, Leeds Rhinos.

However, Olympique have recruited a few players who could help their cause. Josh Ralph and Reubenn Rennie both join from Australia. Meanwhile, Sitaleki Akauola moves over to France from Salford.

They also have agreed a duel-registration partnership with Catalans Dragons, which could give them a huge boost during the season.

Transfers In:

  • Sitaleki Akauola (Salford Red Devils)
  • Reubenn Rennie (Newtown Jets)
  • Josh Ralph (Mounties)
  • Jake Shorrocks (Newcastle Thunder)
  • Calum Gahan (London Broncos)

One to watch

Full-back, Olly Ashall-Bott was a big player for Toulouse last season and he will be looking to continue his good form in the Championship.

The 25-year-old featured for Widnes Vikings in the Championship, before moving on to play for Salford and Huddersfield in the Super League.

During the 2022 season, he featured 24 times in the Super League scoring six times. He could be a huge asset as Toulouse look to top the table.

Toulouse will start their season away at Barrow live on Our League on Saturday 4th February. Kick-off is at 3PM.
