Batley Bulldogs will be looking to go one better in 2023 after their strong showing in 2022. Craig Lingard’s side impressed many as they reached the Betfred Championship Grand Final.
The Bulldogs ended their regular season in fifth position which secured them an away play-off spot. From the 27 Betfred Championship matches, Batley won 17 matches, as well as two draws.
Arguably one of the most dominant performances of the season came against local rivals, Dewsbury Rams in the Heavy Woollen derby at the Summer Bash. Winger Johnny Campbell exploited the defence as he scored four tries during the 60-6 victory.
Two Alistair Leak tries saw Batley defeat Barrow to progress into the next round, where they would travel to face a Featherstone Rovers who they had not lost to in both league meetings in 2022.
Lingard’s side raced into a 20-6 lead, despite a Featherstone fight back, Batley would hold on as they progressed to the Grand Final.
Batley were unable to clinch the victory over a Leigh Centurions side, who dominated the Betfred Championship season in 2022.
Batley kicked off their preparations for the 2023 on Boxing Day where they faced Dewsbury Rams at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. Despite trailing at the break, Batley fought back to defeat the Rans 32-22.
Since taking over the head coach role in 2020, Lingard has seen Batley turn into a tough side to beat especially at home.

The 34 year-old has made over 100 appearances in the Super League. Kear is a versatile player, who has been seen to good effect across the backs as he mainly features as either a centre or full-back.
