Three Greek Players to Watch Against England on Saturday

Three Greek Players to Watch Against England on Saturday

England will head to Sheffield on Saturday to face Greece in the final group game of the Rugby League World Cup. Here are the three dangerous players for Greece, who could cause England problems on Saturday.

Lachlan Ilias has been one of the driving forces in the Greece attack during the first two matches.

The half-back made 26 appearances this season in the NRL for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. During that time, he scored five tries and assisted has assisted 12 others.

The 22-year-old scored the only try during Greece’s 72-4 defeat to Samoa in Doncaster on Sunday evening.

Ilias has shown that he is able to create pressure with his kicking game and if Greece have good field position, he could exploit that.

Another threat in the Greek side is Billy Magoulias

Magoulias is usually seen as a loose forward, however he has shown his versatility already in this World Cup. Against Samoa, Magoulias played out of his conventional position and played as a stand-off alongside Lachlan Ilias.

Magoulias started the side in the Super League with Warrington Wolves, however he made his final appearance in June before leaving the club.

After departing Warrington, the forward returned to Australia where he made 10 appearances for Newtown Jets.

As a forward, the 25-year-old is a strong ball carrier who is able to offload after contact. Meanwhile in more of a half-back role, Magoulias has shown a kicking game mainly looking to chip the ball behind the defensively line.

Johnny Mitsias has played his part so far in the opening two matches for Greece.

The winger has proved to be reliable under the high ball and has looked strong defensively. Despite, losing Mitsias made a big tackle to stop Samoa scoring an additional second half try as he hit Matthew Feagai into touch to prevent what was going to be a certain try.

Mitsias has developed a bit of a reputation during the World Cup at producing big hits, as he did one in the opening match on Fouad Yaha.

The winger only made five appearances this year for Western Suburbs Magpies, however he did score two tries.
