
Wigan Warriors defeated Wakefield Trinity 40-12 in the first Reserve Grand Final since 2012.
The Warriors struck early as Sam Halsall offloaded to Ben O’Keefe to open the scoring inside the first three minutes.
Wigan extended their lead just over 10 minutes later when Kieran Tyrer produce a dummy to touch down underneath the sticks.
Halsall turned provided again for O’Keefe who dived over to complete a first half brace.
Trinity struck back through Robbie Butterworth; however, Wigan had the final say in the half as O’Keefe scored just before the interval to complete his hat-trick as the Warriors headed into the break with a 18-6 advantage.
Trinity, who are coached by Mark Applegarth the coach of Wakefield’s first team next season, struck first in the second half. Josh Phillips barged his way over the line to reduce the gap to 18-12.
Sam Halsall scored a brace within seven minutes as the Warriors looked set to lift the trophy.
Alex Sutton and Logan Astley finished off the Grand Final win with tries in the final six minutes to make the final score 40-12.
