York City Knights claim Betfred Women's Super League Leaders' Shield

York City Knights secured the 2022 Betfred Women's Super League Leaders' Shield with a 22-14 win away to Leeds Rhinos.

But they had to come from behind to do it against one of the two teams - St Helens being the other - who were in a position to beat them to the crown.

Leeds took a 10-0 lead with tries from Fran Goldthorp and Caitlin Beevers.

But York got on the board through Katie Langan before Tara Stanley levelled the scores.

Langan's second put York in front four minutes into the second half and Stanley then crossed again to pad the lead, with Goldthorp's second try for Leeds too late to save the game.

St Helens had done their best to retain their crown with a 56-4 rout of rivals Wigan at the Robin Park Arena.

Two tries from Leah Burke and further scores from Eboni Partington, Rebecca Rotheram, Rachel Woosey and Amy Hardcastle helped St Helens into a 32-0 half-time lead, and it kept coming after the break.

Jodie Cunningham, Emily Rudge, Partington and Hardcastle all touched down before WIgan got a late response through Gabrielle Leigh.

Warrington Wolves secured top spot in Group 2 by thrashing Leigh Miners Rangers 56-0.

That was coupled with defeat for second-placed Barrow, who went down 14-10 to Featherstone Rovers.

Castleford Tigers beat Wakefield Trinity 36-8 as Chloe Smith scored two tries for the hosts and Grace Dyke, Tally Bryer and Martha Brown got the others.
