Betfred Super League Round-Up | Round 23

St Helens extended their lead at the top of the Betfred Super League table with a 60-6 victory at Hull.
The hosts quickly went ahead on four minutes after Jack Walker pounced on a Jake Connor pass and drove down the right to open the scoring at the MKM Stadium, with Luke Gale adding the extras.
It took the defending champions 12 minutes to respond through William Hopoate and Thomas Makinson converting to draw the sides level.

Makinson then pulled St Helens ahead and though he was not able to convert on his own try he did not make the same mistake twice, converting Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook's first of the season.

The visitors had extended their lead to 26-6 by the break and by the end of the afternoon boasted 11 tries from seven players in the full-squad effort, with Konrad Hurrell, Ben Davies, Sione Mata'utia and Joey Lussick all getting in on the action, while Walker was the Black & Whites' only try-scorer.

Second-placed Wigan Warriors, meanwhile, suffered a setback to their title chase after falling 30-12 to Wakefield Trinity in Sunday’s other contest.

The visitors couldn’t dig themselves out of an early deficit, which found them down 16-0 on 30 minutes after Lee Kershaw, Jai Whitbread and Jacob Miller all dotted down for Wakefield.
Wigan managed to rally back with tries from Sam Halsall and Jai Field, but Trinity benefitted from the man advantage after Patrick Mago was sent to the sin bin in the second half, with Kelepi Tanginoa and Lewis Murphy also adding to the hosts’ advantage.
The loss leaves them six points behind Saints and just three clear of Huddersfield Giants, who dropped their meeting with Salford Red Devils 33-16 on Saturday.
The televised match was the first on Channel 4 for the Giants, who couldn’t find a way to rise to the occasion in a challenging first half that saw them manage just one try through Chris McQueen while Oliver Russell added two more points after Brodie Croft was sent to the sin bin.

Sam Hewitt added two tries, but it was nowhere near enough to match the Red Devils outing, which  saw scores from Ken Sio, Joe Burgess, Kallum Watkins, Ryan Brierley, Tim Lafai, and Harvey Livett.
Gareth O'Brien led an attack that saw Castleford Tigers beat Catalans Dragons on Friday night, the Warrington man also twice booting in goals in the 18-8 victory.
Leeds Rhinos, meanwhile, emerged winners of their clash with a 28-20 win over Hull Kingston Rovers at Sewell Group Craven Park.
The dramatic contest saw the sixth-placed Rhinos bounce back from 14-6 down to make it four wins on the bounce and remain just one point behind Tigers in the table.
And on Thursday night, Warrington Wolves bested last-placed side Toulouse Olympique XIII in a 38-12 win.
