Yorkshire Men’s League Finals

Yorkshire Men’s League Finals

This Saturday (August 6) sees an array of silverware up for grabs across both North West and Yorkshire Men’s leagues.

A full day of action on the East of the Pennines will see the Yorkshire Men’s League Plate, Shield, Trophy and Cup finals all contested at Batley Bulldogs’ Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.

We kick things off with the Plate final, set for kick-off at 11am between Castleford Panthers and Queensbury A.

The Panthers will be looking to round off an incredible Plate campaign, where the latter stages of the competition had thrown up some real tests – their quarter final win saw them edge out Cottingham Tigers by a whisker, where a 26-28 victory saw them progress.

Their semi-final clash with Sherburn Bears was no easier, but a 12-20 win was enough for the Castleford outfit to secure their place in this weekend’s final.

Opponents Queensbury A were also involved in some gripping encounters – their home win in the last eight against Birkenshaw Blue Dogs was one of the ties of the tournament, where a 36-30 victory saw them through. They scored 36 points again in the semi-finals, as they booked their tickets to Batley with an away win against Methley Warriors.

The YML Shield Final will be up for grabs next, with kick-off at 1pm as Stanley Rangers take on Kirkburton Cougars.

Stanley Rangers found themselves in the final four after a 34-22 win against Sherwood Wolf Hunt, where they breezed past opponents Seacroft Sharks with a comfortable 54-0 win as Rangers demonstrated their might, and why they’ll take to the pitch this weekend with a shot at silverware.

For Kirkburton Cougars, a 28-22 home victory in the quarter-finals meant a trip to Batley was within touching distance – they made sure of it in the semi-finals, as a composed performance on away soil against Goole Vikings saw them run out 8-28 victors.

At 3pm, we move on to the YML Trophy final where Ossett Trinity Tigers meet Newsome Panthers.

Ossett Trinity made light work of their quarter-final fixture, where a comfortable 4-38 win away to Illingworth set up an enticing tie with Keighley Albion in the semi-finals – a game that didn’t disappoint, with the Tigers edging a gruelling battle 28-20.

Opponents Newsome Panthers overcame the challenge Hull Wyke provided in the quarter-finals, winning 12-25 – they followed this up with another complete performance in the semi-finals, soundly beating Greetland All Rounders 30-10 on home territory.

We bring the curtains down on a busy day of YML action with the Cup final, which is set to get underway at 5pm as Almondbury Spartans lock horns with Doncaster Toll Bar.

It was an efficient display from Almondbury in the quarter-final, with a 30-8 win over Siddal Academy earning them a spot in the final four – they rose to the occasion once again a month later, beating Brighouse Rangers 22-34 on their own patch in a thrilling game of Rugby League.

Doncaster Toll Bar racked up 72 points across their quarter-final and semi-final games, scoring 36 in each – a 36-18 win against New Earswick All Blacks brought them closer to glory, whilst a semi-final win victory over Bramley Buffaloes made sure of their place in the final.

As eight teams all take to the field at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium with their eyes on the prize, we’re in for a cracking day of Yorkshire Men’s League action once again, and it’s all live on Our League from 11am!
