Betfred Championship Round 18 Round-Up

Betfred Championship Round 18 Round-Up

Leigh Centurions marched on at the top of the Betfred Championship with an emphatic 66-0 win over bottom side Workington Town on Sunday.

The Centurions scored 11 tries in a powerful showing at Derwent Park that maintained their three-point advantage over second-placed Featherstone Rovers.

Nene MacDonald led the way with a hat-trick of tries for Adrian Lam's league leaders, while Joe Wardle and Ata Hingano each crossed twice and Krisnan Inu landed 11 goals.

Josh Charnley, Caleb Aekins, Edwin Ipape and Tom Amone also crossed for dominant Leigh, who racked up a half-century of points for a third successive week.

Featherstone kept up their pursuit with a 42-22 win over London Broncos at the Kuflink Stadium in Ebbsfleet.

Gareth Gale and Joey Leilua claimed two tries apiece for Rovers, with further touchdowns from Luke Briscoe, Jesse Sene-Lefao and Ryley Jacks and five goals from Craig Hall.

Dalton Grant claimed two late consolation tries for the Broncos after Dean Parata and Alex Walker scored earlier.

Batley Bulldogs climbed to third by extending their unbeaten run to seven games by holding on for a tight 20-18 win at Sheffield Eagles on Friday.

Two tries from Dale Morton and another from Jonny Campbell got the Bulldogs off to a fine start, but the Eagles hit back to level with converted scores from Vila Halafihi and Blake Broadbent.

Tom Gilmore edged the visitors back in front and a penalty from Luke Hooley gave them just enough breathing space before another reply from Anthony Thackeray.

Barrow Raiders scored 30 unanswered second-half points to run out 40-6 winners in their all-Cumbrian clash with Whitehaven.

Tee Ritson and Jarrod Sammut each finished with two tries for the Raiders, with further efforts from on-loan Salford Red Devils duo Gregg Burke and Matty Costello, and Anton Iaria.

Jack Owens crossed for a second try five minutes from time as Widnes Vikings edged out Dewsbury Rams 20-16 on Sunday.

Owens had opened the scoring early on and Kieran Dixon and Ryan Ince also went over, but the Rams fought hard with tries of their own from Bayley Gill, Bradley Graham and Ben Blackmore.

Jack Johnson scored two of Newcastle Thunder's nine tries in an impressive 53-10 win over Bradford Bulls. Jake Shorrocks weighed in with 20 points from a try and eight goals.
