Report: Warrington Wolves 10-12 St Helens

St Helens will go into the Challenge Cup Final top of Super League after a hard-fought 12-10 win at home to Warrington on Thursday night.

Gareth Widdop gave Warrington the opening score as he got on the end of some fine play involving Connor Wrench.

But Alex Walmsley's bizarre try on 22 minutes and then Tommy Makinson's 14th of the season just before half time helped St Helens into an unlikely 12-4 interval lead. Makinson added the two goals.

But, after a toiling first quarter of the second period, Widdop was involved again on the hour as he broke before sending George Williams over for a converted try which hauled the home side back into the tie.
