Betfred Women's Super League Round One Round-Up

St Helens opened their Betfred Women's Super League campaign in style with a 44-0 thrashing of Wigan Warriors.

Head coach Derek Hardman made three changes to his side from last weekend's Challenge Cup final victory over Leeds, but Saints were still far too strong for the visitors at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Amy Hardcastle scored two of the home side's five tries in the first half and the standout score of the game in the 33rd minute, receiving the ball just inside her own half and fending off a number of attempted tackles to score under the posts.

Shona Hoyle marked her St Helens debut with a try after 67 minutes before Zoe Harris completed the rout by converting her own score two minutes from time.

York City Knights also have a points difference of 44 courtesy of a 50-6 victory at Huddersfield Giants.

The away side ran in nine tries, with Hollie Dodd and Emma Kershaw both scoring twice and Olivia Whitehead completing the scoring in the final seconds by converting her own try.

In group two, Featherstone Rovers started their campaign with a 30-0 win at Bradford Bulls, with Chloe Billington scoring two of the visitors' six tries.

Warrington Wolves also enjoyed a successful away day, beating Barrow Raiders 32-6.

Georgia Sutherland scored a brace of tries and Michelle Davis and Fern Davies also crossed over for the visitors.

Leigh Miners Rangers began their debut season in the Super League in style with a 28-14 victory at home to Wakefield Trinity.
