England's Tommy Makinson awarded Testimonial

St Helens and England winger Tommy Makinson has been awarded a Testimonial year throughout the 2021 season as he heads into his 10th season with the Betfred Super League champions.

Since making his first team debut for St Helens against Salford Red Devils in 2011, Makinson has gone on to make 244 career appearances, scoring 138 tries totalling over 800 points.

Makinson has lifted the Betfred Super League trophy on three occasions with St Helens in 2014, 2019 and, most recently, 2020. He also won the League Leaders’ Shield in each of these seasons as well as the 2018 Betfred Super League season.

In 2018, Makinson broke onto the International scene with England in four Test Match appearances against New Zealand, crossing for a memorable hat-trick against the Kiwis at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium. His performances saw him earn the Golden Boot Award as the International Player of the Year.

On being awarded his Testimonial, Makinson said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a testimonial year at the Saints.

“I’ve been at this club since I was kid and I love playing here. Winning our back-to-back Grand Final on Friday was something I will never forget, and I can’t wait for next year now.”

St Helens Chief Executive, Mike Rush, added: “Tommy has been a great servant for this club and he thoroughly deserves his Testimonial year.

“Both on and off the pitch, Tommy is the ultimate professional and has been a hugely important player for the club over a number of years. He is one of the best wingers in the world and you can see why he is such an inspirational role model for young and upcoming Rugby League wingers.

“He was again crucial in our success most recently in the Grand Final and I urge all fans to pay their thanks to him and get behind Tommy and his Testimonial events in 2021.”

St Helens have confirmed that Makinson will have a Testimonial match in 2021 while charities he has chosen to support will be announced in due course.
