Following a successful round of regional games at the end of November, the annual Universities Origin game will take place on Saturday 1st February, 3pm Kick Off at Loughborough University.
Players from the South East, South West and Midlands teams will be selected for the South, with the North being made up of players who represented North East, North West and Yorkshire. Both squads will comprise of 30 players each, which will be whittled down to 20 for the game day, with players selected by England coaching team Richard Tate and Kevin Deighton.
Ahead of announcing the playing squads, the staff teams have been appointed who will lead the preparation and coaching of the squads on game day, to ensure that all selected players can impress for England selection.
The North team’s head coach will be the North East’s Adam Houston, who acted as Head Coach for the North East region. He will be assisted by Alex Davidson and Dan Hardy, the North West and Yorkshire’s respective head coaches, whilst Yorkshire’s Matt Airey will act as Team Manager.
In the South, Ben Whincup, South West’s head coach will lead the team, assisted by Martyn Rothwell (Midlands) and Dan Roberts (South East). Experienced Team Manager Ryan Cousins will manage the team after undertaking the same role for the Midlands.

“They’ve all volunteered their time to play a part in a very successful round of Regional Games and I am sure that their contribution will be just as important at Origin level. All eight of the staff have a good understanding of the University game and have built great relationships with Richard and Kevin and know exactly what they are looking for in terms of England selection.”
