A successful collaborative project between Super League Europe, title sponsor Betfred, principal broadcast partner Sky Sports and Amayse will bring virtual advertising to viewer’s screens during the Betfred Super League semi-finals and Grand Final.
First trialled during the Round 13 fixture between Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers and a first for UK domestic rugby, the technology has made it possible to virtually create detailed and lifelike advertising during Super League games on Sky Sports.
Amayse, the project technology provider, can place digitised 2D and 3D logos, messages, product shots, and even video content directly on to screens. During the Round 13 televised games, viewers could clearly see the Betfred Super League logo in the middle of the pitch supported by further advertising in different halves of the field.
Rugby Football League Chief Commercial Officer, Roger Draper, said: “Both Betfred and ourselves were delighted with the results of the trial earlier in the season. With our heightened broadcast viewership over the next two weeks, we were keen to make use of Amayse’s technology again.
“Traditional pitch branding has never been possible at Old Trafford, for the first time the Betfred and Super League brand will be clearly visible at our showpiece event.
“Long-term broadcast partner, Sky Sports, have supported the activity and shown again how well we work together to deliver great Rugby League experiences.”
Greg Craigen, Managing Director at Amayse, added: “We are pleased to be able to offer a Virtual Advertising solution to the Rugby Football League again and showcase new technology over the next fortnight.
“Using this virtual technology, we can insert prominent competition and Betfred logos onto the field of play as well as provide a platform for the sport’s key brands.”
